Baoshan Xing is University Distinguished Professor at Stockbridge School of Agriculture, University of Massachusetts (UMass), Amherst, USA. He is Director of Stockbridge School of Agriculture, and the Director of the University of Massachusetts Off-Campus M.Sc. program in Soil Science. Dr Xing’s work in environmental & soil chemistry focuses on protecting our environment through maintaining/improving soil and water quality. His current research includes 1) environmental impact and agricultural application of engineered nanomaterials, 2) sorption and fate of organic contaminants, 3) analysis and environmental processes of microplastics and nanoplastics, 4) characterization and use of biochars, and 5) food safety. Along with students and colleagues, he has published over 700 refereed articles in high impact journals such asNature Nanotechnology,ACS Nano,PNAS,Water Research, andES&T, with over 150 papers in ES&T. His research work is ranked in the top 0.1% of cited authors for journals in environmental sciences and ecology with h-index currently at 138 and a total citation of ~80,000 (Google Scholar). More impressively, he is one of the “Most Cited Scientists” every year since 2014 when this analytics started, recognized by the Clarivate Analytics for “the best and brightest scientific minds of our time”. Dr. Xing was/is a technical editor of “Journal of Environmental Quality,”and Editorof “Environmental Pollution,” “Biochar”and“Carbon Research,”and an editorial board member of many other international journals. He also serves on the External Scientific Advisory Board of the NIEH Superfund research center at Michigan State University. Dr. Xing received numerous awards/honors, including the outstanding researcher of his college in 2003, outstanding research achievement award from Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) in 2005, NSFC Overseas Outstanding Young Scientist Award in 2005, ACSPSNA distinguished career award in 2012, the University Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Research and Creative Activity in 2015, Environmental Quality Research Award (2016), Spotlight Scholar (2017), Soil Science Research Award (2018), the University Conti Faculty Fellowship (2019-2020), one of the Best Scientists (Environmental Sciences) in the world (Research.com,2023) and University Distinguished Professor (2023). Dr. Xing is Fellow of both Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) and Agronomy Society of America (ASA).
