Vision, Mission and Approach
Vision: Increasing global crop security through the control of plant pests and diseases.
???Mission: Understand the molecular mechanisms by which microorganisms initiate infections in parasitic nematodes through an understanding of innate immunity and exploit this knowledge to develop, integrated, environmentally benign, nematode management strategies.?Approach: I have over 30 years of experience in the field of interactions between microbes and parasitic nematodes both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Using insights gained from studying the interactions between nematodes, their hosts and microbial enemies, and by exploiting the new genomics data available in public databases, I am identifying the molecular susceptibilities of nematodes to reduce their damage to hosts and using this knowledge to develop novel and robust environmentally sustainable control strategies.
